Symphony in the Flint Hills Preview

Today I presented a brief preview of the Symphony in the Flint Hills documentary that I've been working on with Corin Breña, Steven Ludlow and Fletcher Powell. The project is a collection of several self-contained shorter pieces, but I shot an interview with the Executive Director, Emily Hunter, on Thursday that will help bring these pieces cohesiveness. Take a look at this preview. Thanks again to Les Anderson and Amy DeVault for giving us this amazing opportunity.

  2. Thanks. We have so much great footage and everyone we talked to was incredible. The documentary will be great... not because of us, but because of the people we talked to and the beauty of the Flint Hills. I will be posting more previews soon.

  3. Fabulous! You see, this city-boy has a special affinity for the Flint Hills. My family moved to Topeka when I was a baby and my father had secured a job at Service, Van Doren & Hazard in 1955 - building the Turnpike. Then after casual trips through the Flint Hills my whole life I recently had the occasion to live in both Wichita and Topeka and spent hundreds (thousands?) of hours back and forth multiple times a week. When time allowed I veered off the Turnpike and took alternate routes. When I first heard of this project 6 years ago, I knew I had to go. After multiple fails I finally made it for the first time this past year. Can't wait to see the completed documentary!

  4. Thank you for taking the time to post comments. It really is an amazing event. I'm from St. Louis, MO, so I did not know much about the Flint Hills prior to this project, but I enjoyed learning about this beautiful part of our country and the wonderful people that live there. The stories are incredible. I attended a screening of John O'Hara's documentary Return to PrairyErth yesterday and it was great. I'll keep this blog updated on the status of the project.

  6. Thanks Kevin. I'm not sure what the schedule is for Return to PrairyErth, but John O'Hara is the producer. He is a friend of mine on Facebook, so if you have problems finding him, send me a friend request and you can find him in my friends list.
